Beginning in 2009-2010, what is taught, tested, and expected in classrooms across Tennessee will become more challenging. The Tennessee Diploma Project, a school reform initiative launched by Governor Phil Bredesen, takes effect in the fall of 2009 with new graduation requirements and more stringent standards for what students learn in school. The goal is for students to graduate with superior knowledge and skills allowing them a choice of continuing their education or securing a desirable job.
