Health InsuranceEligible state, local education and local government employees may enroll in health coverage through the state group insurance program. Available options include the Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) which is available statewide, a Point of Service (POS) also available statewide or a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO). Once an employee has made benefit choices for the year, they may not be changed unless he/she has a qualifying change in family status. The federal law, Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA), states that qualifying changes in family status generally include:To make a coverage change, an employee must notify Human Resources (in person) and complete the appropriate forms within 30 days of his/her status change. Dental/Vision BenefitsThe school system offers a voluntary dental/vision reimbursement plan. The plan is a self-insured benefit plan provided by the school system. You may choose from four levels of coverage:
Option I-Dental OnlyAnnual Dental Insurance Open Enrollment Period: November 15-December 15 All claims for dental/vision expenses must be submitted no later than March 31 after the end of the Plan Year in which the expense was incurred. Supplemental Life and Accidental Death & DismembermentThe School System provides a $10,000 life insurance policy to all full-time employees. This benefit is reduced to 50% at age 75 and to 30% at age 80. Employees may purchase policies for a spouse and children, and/or purchase additional amounts of coverage beyond $10,000. Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System (TCRS)This plan provides monthly income to you are retirement. Your benefit at retirement is based on a formula, which considers your years of service and your income.
