Substitute Teachers

We at Sevier County Schools appreciate your interest in a substitute teaching position with our district. These resources are designed to assist you with your job search and to ensure that you understand the requirements that you must meet in order to be employed as a substitute teacher with our district. Under Tennessee law, any person seeking employment with Sevier County Schools will be subject a background check through the Tennessee Applicant Processing Services Division of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.  Additionally, any applicant will have his/her name submitted to the Department of Children's Services, Department of Human Services, and the sex offender registry to determine if the applicant is eligible for hire.  

Application Process for Substitute Teachers

Applications for substitute teaching must be picked up from an administrator at one of our school locations. The application is to be completed by the applicant in full and returned to the administrator at the same school location in which it was obtained. The administrator will review the application and complete reference checks. If the applicant is offered employment, they will receive further information from the administrator on how to complete the employment process.

Note: You must be over 21 years of age to substitute at any high school or vocational school.

Employment Process for Substitute Teachers
Once an applicant has been offered employment as a substitute teacher, they will be given instructions for completing a federal background check. AFTER the applicant has been fingerprinted they contact the substitute teacher coordinator at central office to register for a substitute teacher orientation session. Substitute teacher orientations are held each Monday at 9:00 am at central office, 226 Cedar Street. 

Items Required At Orientation
  • Completed Substitute Teacher Application
  • Drivers License
  • Social Security Card
  • Voided Check for Direct Deposit or a letter on bank letterhead stating routing and account number
  • Letter of recommendation from a local Sevier County resident
  • Copy of High School Diploma or College Transcript (GED diploma requires 9 hours of college credit.)
  • Receipt from Identogo for fingerprinting confirmation
