Applying to become a Substitute Teacher

We at Sevier County Schools appreciate your interest in a substitute teaching position with our district. This website is designed to assist you with the application process and to ensure that you understand the requirements that you must meet in order to be be a substitute teacher with our district.

As of July 1, 2007, any person seeking employment with Sevier County Schools will be subject to a criminal history records check and have his/her name submitted to the Department of Children's Services to determine if the potential employee was found by DCS to have committed child abuse.

Note: You must be over 21 years of age to substitute at any high school or vocational school.

 

Application Process for Substitute Teachers

  1. Contact a school principal or secretary to get an employment authorization form completed and signed and an information sheet with directions for background check pre-registration.

  2. Complete a substitute teacher application available at each school.

  3. Pre-register for your background check and finderprinting online at http://www.tennessee.cogentid.com or by calling 1.877.862.2425.

  4. Contact Atwork Personnel at 865.428.1412 to be fingerprinted.

  5. Attend a policies and benefits orientation. Orientation is held on Mondays at 9:00 a.m. in the board room at the central office. Please allow up to 3 hours for the orientation and sign-up process. All employees must arrive ON TIME for orientation. Late arrivals will be asked to attend the next scheduled orientation.

Items to Bring to Orientation

  • Employment Authorization form (completed & signed by principal)
  • Letter of recommendation from local Sevier County resident
  • Drivers license
  • Social security card
  • Completed employment application
  • Copy of High School Diploma or college transcript (GED diploma requires 9 hours of college credit)
  • Signed “Certification of Review” from handbook
