Beginning in the fall of 2011, Tennessee schools will begin implementation of the Common Core State Standards Initiative. The phase-in of these new standards will begin with kindergarten students in 2011-2012, with full K-12 implementation of the Common Core State Standards in 2013. Full implementation of the CCSS has been accelerated by one school year as a result of Tennessee's Elementary and Secondary Education Act, known as No Child Left Behind, waiver.
