TCAPStudents in Grades 1-8 take the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) Achievement Test each spring. The Achievement Test is a timed, multiple choice assessment that measures skills in Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Student results are reported to parents, teachers and administrators. |
Gateway/End of YearStudents in Grades 9-12 must successfully pass examinations in three subject areas - Mathematics, Science, and Language Arts - in order to earn a high school diploma. These examinations, called Gateway Tests, are administered three times annually to accommodate students completing work in the fall, spring, and summer semesters. |

Writing AssessmentThe Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) Writing Assessment requires students to write a rough draft essay in response to an assigned prompt (topic) within a limited time period. Fifth-grade students are asked to write a narrative essay (a story), eighth-grade students an expository essay (an explanation), and eleventh-grade students a persuasive essay (an argument). The writing samples are scored holistically on a 0-6 scale. |
