Dear Parents and Seniors,
As the spring semester begins, we here at Seymour High School know that families of seniors are already beginning to look toward the end of the school year. In order to allow families time to plan for important events this spring, we would like to share the following information.
We are committed to conducting graduation exercises for the class of 2021 as scheduled on May 18,
2021 at 5:30 p.m. If current restrictions from Governor Lee's office and the Tennessee Department of Health on gathering sizes and venues remain in place, we will conduct graduation in the same manner as last summer. Each graduating senior will be given tickets for 4 guests who will be able to attend in person with health screenings and masks at our football stadium. An alternate day (Saturday, May 22) has been designated in case of rain. The event will be live streamed via our school website for those who wish to watch from home. If restrictions on events are lifted or eased with reasonable notice, graduation will be held on the same date at The LeConte Convention Center as originally planned.
Given the limitations placed on certain venues and the close proximities inspired by the nature of the
event itself, we do not currently anticipate being able to host a prom. The restrictions we would have to impose on such an event (social distancing, etc.) would prevent many of the traditional prom activities that students look forward to most. We know that this will be disappointing to students and families, but it is with their health and safety in mind that we arrived at this decision. If restrictions are sufficiently eased with reasonable notice, we would likely revisit this decision.
We wish our seniors and all of our students the best of luck this semester, and we look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of our graduates this May.
Sincerely,
Gregory D. Haggard
