Dr. Katie Moore Named TSSAA A.F. Bridges Coach of the Year
Gatlinburg-Pittman girls basketball coach Dr. Katie Moore has been named the 2019 TSSAA A.F. Bridges Female Coach of the Year for Athletic District I.
During her tenure, Coach Moore has compiled over 180 wins with the Lady Highlanders that include four District Championship wins, two Region Championship wins, and two trips to the TSSAA State Tournament. The Lady Highlanders reached the Final Four in 2017.
The A.F. Bridges Award aims to honor its namesake by recognizing those who display characteristics consistent with that of the TSSAA's first full-time Executive Secretary, who was named to the position in 1946. As the TSSAA states, "Mr. Bridges was a person of high principles who displayed firmness and fairness, as well as the high ideals of ethics and integrity."
True to the spirit of the award, Coach Moore is most proud of the success of her players in the classroom. Of the nineteen graduating seniors that have come through her program, twelve of them have graduated in the top ten percent of their classes and seven of them have earned valedictorian honors of their respective classes. Eighteen of them have gone on to college and have either earned their degrees or are on track to graduate at their respective institutions.
Congratulations to Dr. Moore on this well-deserved honor.
