Eighth Grade

  • Description: Literacy is a multi-faceted, complex relationship of interrelated skills, beginning with language development. The standards have been written based on a progression beginning with the skills in the Foundational Literacy standards—print concepts, phonological awareness, phonics and word recognition, word and sentence composition, and fluency. The progression continues to build toward a more sophisticated manipulation of language in the upper grades. This progression of building and reinforcing foundational skills will be critical for the success of Tennessee students as they advance towards mastering post-secondary and workforce expectations. In every grade, the language standards are based on the development of language processing from the word level, to the sentence level, and finally to content knowledge.

    Tennessee ELA Standards

  • Description: Read 180® helps students who are two or more years behind become active, accomplished readers.

  • Description: Students will explore the following mathematical concepts and skills throughout the 8th grade: The Number System, Expressions and Equations, Functions, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability.

    Tennessee Grade 8 Mathematics Standards

  • Description: The academic standards for eighth grade establish the content knowledge and skills for Tennessee students necessary to prepare them for the rigorous levels of higher education and future job markets. The course provides students with a wealth of experiences for both science practices and content knowledge.

  • Description: Eighth grade students will learn about the settlement and founding of the U.S. through Reconstruction and study the history, economics, culture, government, and geography of Tennessee in context to illustrate the role our state has played in American history.

    Tennessee Social Studies Standards

  • Description: Development of artistically literate citizens, preparing students not only for college and career, but also for a lifetime enhanced by and with the arts using grade specific Tennessee Academic Standards.
