March is a time to recognize excellence in many forms, but one group that deserves special attention - especially here in Sevier County - is our athletic trainers.
In celebration of National Athletic Training Month (NATM), sponsored by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA), we pause to acknowledge the critical role athletic trainers play in the health and success of our student-athletes. Their work often happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt on every field, court, and track across our county.
Through the continued partnership with Covenant Health's Leconte Medical Center, Sevier County Schools are fortunate to have highly trained, dedicated professionals embedded within our athletic programs. These athletic trainers are far more than sideline support-they are healthcare providers specializing in injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation. When emergencies arise, they are often the first responders, making quick, life-saving decisions under pressure.
But their contributions go beyond the moments we see under the Friday night lights. Athletic trainers spend countless hours developing injury prevention programs, guiding student-athletes through recovery, and ensuring they can safely return to play. They build relationships with students, coaches, and families-serving not only as medical professionals, but also as mentors and trusted advocates.
For many of our student-athletes, these trainers are a constant presence-early mornings, late evenings, weekends-committed to their well-being regardless of the season. Their work helps keep our athletes safe, competitive, and confident.
We are deeply grateful to Covenant Health's Leconte Medical Center for their investment in our schools and our students. Their support ensures that Sevier County athletes have access to top-tier sports medicine care, right where they need it most.
To our athletic trainers: THANK YOU! Your dedication does not go unnoticed. You are an essential part of our teams, our schools, and our community. This month, and every month, we recognize the difference you make.
